10 concerts featuring Berio at the Philharmonie, Berlin

In the frame of the Berliner Philharmoniker 2011-2012 concert season, ten concerts are dedicated to Luciano Berio’s music. The concerts of September 22, 23 and 24, conducted by Semyon Bychkov, feature Rendering, and Sequenza VII performed by Albrecht Mayer, principal oboe of the orchestra. From October 20 to 22, Pablo Heras-Casado will conduct the orchestra in Quatre dédicaces. As part of the «Late Nights» at the Philharmonie, two concerts are scheduled: on October 28 and 29, Olaf Ott will perform Sequenza V for trombone and Simon Rattle will conduct Folk Songs with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená and members of Berliner Philharmoniker; on December 10 the violinist Andreas Buschatz will perform Sequenza VIII.

Three next appointments feature Emmanuel Pahud with Sequenza I for flute (December 20, 21, 22), Amihai Grosz with Sequenza VI for viola (January 19, 20, 21) and Gábor Tarkövi with Sequenza X (January 20 and 21).
On January 25 and 26 Sir Simon Rattle will conduct the Berliner in a concert featuring Il ritorno degli snovidenia, with Olaf Maninger at the cello. On April 13 and 14 the orchestra, again conducted by Rattle, will perform Requies followed by O King, with mezzo-soprano Kate Royal and five members of the Berliner. The Berio series will close in June (14, 15, 16) with Sequenza IX performed by Walter Seyfarth.
