The 2013 concert season around the world is particularly rich of outstanding events featuring Luciano Berio’s music (for the full program see the Concert Calendar). The following is a selection of performances scheduled for the first trimester of the new year.

The Casa da Música in Porto commemorates the tenth anniversary of the composer’s death with an «Omaggio a Berio» consisting of nine concerts scheduled between January and October 2013. The cycle is inaugurated on January 18 with a performance of Quatre dédicaces by the Symphonic Orquestra do Porto conducted by Christoph Konig. On January 19 Lisa Milne and the Remix Ensemble Casa da Música conducted by Peter Rundel will perform Recital for Cathy. For the full program of this rich Omaggio see the attached pdf.

The Divertimento Ensemble in collaboration with the Museo del Novecento, Milan, honors Berio with an exhibition, a series of concerts, masterclasses and two lectures scheduled between January and June 2013. The concerts will feature the performance of the complete series of Sequenzas and works for piano. The whole production of Berio’s electronic music will be performed in two concerts in the frame of Museo degli Strumenti Musicali at Castello Sforzesco, Milan. For the full program, click here.

The Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, conducted by Dima Slobodeniouk, devotes to Berio a monographic concert on February 1st. The program includes Eindrücke, Requies and Sinfonia with the Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart.

The Orchestra Regionale Toscana pays tribute to Berio in seven concerts of the season: Corale with the violinist Kolja Blacher will be conducted by Philipp von Steinaecker in Florence (Jan 18), Figline Valdarno (Jan 19), Empoli (Jan 21) and Livorno (Jan 22); Peter Rundel will conduct Requies in Florence (March 5), Figline Valdarno (March 6) and Piombino (March 7).

Four different performances of Rendering are scheduled between January and March: the Bruckner Orchestra Linz conducted by Daniel Linton-France (Wels, Jan 11); the Basel Universitätsorchester conducted by Olga Machonova Pavlu in Basel (Jan 11) and Arlesheim (Jan 13); the Göteborgs Symfoniker conducted by Edward Gardner (Feb 27 and 28); the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra conducted by Roberto Abbado (Atlanta, March 8, 9, 10).

Laborintus II is scheduled in Genève on January 15 in a performance featuring the Ensemble Contrechamps and Ensemble vocale Séquence conducted by Michael Wendeberg with Vincent Barras and Jacques Demierre as speakers.

Linea will be performed by Andrea Lucchesini, Pietro De Maria, Andrea Dulbecco and Luca Gusella. The concert will include the world première of Touch and Canzonetta (Amici della Musica di Firenze, Teatro della Pergola, March 4).
