Masterclass “A creative exploration: Luciano Berio’s Sequenzas for cello and piano, between research and performance”

As part of the special educational programming promoted by the Cagliari Conservatory “Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina”Angela Ida De Benedictis (musicologist), Andrea Lucchesini (piano), and Claudio Pasceri (cello) held a masterclass on October 6 and 7, 2023, aimed at performers, composers, active students, and auditors. The focus was on Berio’s two Sequenzas, explored from poetic, technical-instrumental, and aesthetic perspectives.

The dialogue between the expertise and experiences of the three specialists — acclaimed interpreters and scholars of the works in question — shed light on the major compositional, textual, performative, and sonic aspects of the two Sequenzas. It also addressed the conceptual knots of “re-creation” and “intercultural appropriation,” offering an effective example of interdisciplinary integration.

The event was held in collaboration with the Centro Studi Luciano Berio and the Spaziomusica Festival. Organization and coordination: Claudia Vincis (c.vincis@consca.it).
