Workshop on Choral Conducting and Research as part of the Luciano Berio Festival 2025

As part of the Luciano Berio Festival 2025 “Invito”: per un centenario (1925-2025), ITER Research Ensemble and the Centro Studi Luciano Berio have designed a workshop on choral conducting and research dedicated to Berio’s choral works. This workshop is aimed at experienced choir conductors with a strong interest in 20th-century choral music. The repertoire includes both published and unpublished works by Berio, as well as pieces by composers who were close to him on a biographical, musical, or intellectual level.

The work on the selected pieces will not be limited to rehearsal and interpretation but will also be supported by a historical and musicological in-depth analysis, conceived as an essential element of performance preparation. Participants will engage in two main activities:

  • Seminar sessions (online): in-depth exploration of the selected pieces, led by different teams composed of ITER Research Ensemble members.
  • Rehearsal sessions (in person): the group will meet to work as a laboratory choir, focusing on interpretation and ensemble work.

The workshop will include two public events:

  • An open rehearsal with a final performance in Milan on September 14, organized by Cori Lombardia APS.
  • concluding concert in Radicondoli (SI)—one of Berio’s favorite places—to celebrate 100 years since his birth.

Application deadline: April 1, 2025.
