Epifanie – A sound exhibition dedicated to Luciano Berio curated by FontanaMIXensemble

As part of Exitime 2025, dedicated to Luciano Berio, FontanaMIXensemble—in collaboration with MAMbo – Museum of Modern Art of Bologna (Musei Civici Bologna)—presents Epifanie on 12 April 2025, a sound exhibition that explores various aspects of Berio’s work through a spatialized journey within the galleries of MAMbo’s permanent collection.

Epifanie offers a multidimensional experience accessible from multiple perspectives, through instrumental appearances, vocal fragments, sound rooms, and projections. These are true “epiphanies” of voices, sounds, and visions—drawn from sources including instrumental and vocal chamber music, as well as Berio’s 1950s radio works—which converse both with one another and with the artworks on display. In the museum’s different rooms, the soloists of FontanaMIX are arranged according to a mise-en-espace designed by the performers themselves.

Vocal scores such as Chamber Music and Sequenza III will be interpreted by the extraordinary voice of Valentina Coladonato, while other museum rooms will feature audio and video materials, including Ritratto di Città. Studio per una rappresentazione radiofonica (1954), a work by Luciano Berio and Bruno Maderna with text by Roberto Leydi, and excerpts from the television series C’è Musica & Musica (RAI, 1972), provided courtesy of the Centro Studi Luciano Berio.

At 6:00 PM, a conversation will take place featuring Rossana Dalmonte and Marcello Panni.

The project is supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region and Illumia.
