Many concerts with Luciano Berio's music are scheduled between the end of October and the beginning of December 2011. Following is a selection of the most outstanding. On October 28, in Munich, David Robertson conducts the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks with the Synergy Vocals in Sinfonia. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Theodor Currentzis, will perform Folk Songs in their forthcoming tournée in Germany and Poland. The concerts, featuring mezzo-soprano Malena Ernman, will take place in Berlin (November 5, Radialsystem), Poznan (November 7, Aula Universytechka), Warsaw (November 8, Filharmonia Naradowa) and Krakau (November 9, Filharmonia Krakowska). On December 1st, the Amsterdam Muziekgebouw will host the Ensemble Modern conducted by Hartmut Keil in a concert devoted entirely to Luciano Berio's music: Différences, Folk Songs, Sequenza III (Jenny Carlstedt), Sequenza V (Uwe Dierksen), Sequenza X (Valentin Garvie), and Sequenza XIV (Michael M. Kasper).

In the frame of the Berliner Philharmoniker 2011-2012 concert season, ten concerts are dedicated to Luciano Berio’s music. The concerts of September 22, 23 and 24, conducted by Semyon Bychkov, feature Rendering, and Sequenza VII performed by Albrecht Mayer, principal oboe of the orchestra. From October 20 to 22, Pablo Heras-Casado will conduct the orchestra in Quatre dédicaces. As part of the «Late Nights» at the Philharmonie, two concerts are scheduled: on October 28 and 29, Olaf Ott will perform Sequenza V for trombone and Simon Rattle will conduct Folk Songs with mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená and members of Berliner Philharmoniker; on December 10 the violinist Andreas Buschatz will perform Sequenza VIII.

The second and third appointment of the project Luciano Berio's musical theater took place in Paris on November 17 and 18. The study days focused respectively on Opera and La vera storia. The project, directed by Giordano Ferrari with the scientific collaboration of Talia Pecker Berio, Gianmario Borio, Angela Ida De Benedictis and Gianfranco Vinay, was inaugurated a year ago in Venice with a study day dedicated to Passaggio (click here for more details on the project). The venue of the forthcoming meetings was the Cité de la Musique.

The proceedings of «Passaggio e dintorni» from the first day of study of the project Il teatro di Luciano Berio, which took place in Venice at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini on September 25th, 2010 (see http://www.lucianoberio.org/node/1261?1169851783=1), are now accessible online.

The 2011 edition of the ULTIMA Oslo Contemporary Music Festival hosts several concerts dedicated to Luciano Berio's Sequenzas. In the frame of the Festival, which will take place in the first half of September, the Sequenzas will be performed by Marino Formenti (September 8, Sequenza IV), Garth Knox (September 10, Sequenza VI), Rolf Borch (September 13, Sequenza V), Karin Hellqvist, Håkon Thelin, Ensemble Recherche (September 14, Sequenza VIII, XIVb, I, VII), Guri Egge, Thomas Kjekstad, Grzegorz Miszczyszyn (September 15, Sequenza III, XI, XIII), Sava Stoianov and Juan Carlos Gavoyo (September 16, Sequenza X). On September 13 will take place a workshop focused on the Sequenzas, that will be held by Luca Francesconi and musicians of the Ensemble Recherche.

The 2011 programme of the Dartington Summer School, where Berio held composition classes in 1961, features various performances and courses dedicated to his music. The Duetti for two violins serve as a model for the beginners composition course, A-Ronne is at the center of Linda Hirst’s course on Berio’s «voice theatre», which culminates in a concert including also Sequenza III and Cries of London (August 25). Other performances feature the Sequenze VII, X, XIV, Gesti, Lied, Opus Number Zoo, E si fussi pisci.

During the month of July 2011, Alina Ibragimova will perform Sequenza VIII for solo violin in several concerts in the frame of the Manchester International Festival. The concerts, scheduled at the Manchester Chetham's School of Music (July 1-17), will be replicated in London, at the Wiltons Music Hall (July 25-26-27), in collaboration with the Barbican Centre. The program includes works by Bach, Biber and Bartók. The performance will feature video installations by The Quay Brothers.

On Thursday, September 8, 2011, Mila De Santis will give a lecture on Berio, Sanguineti: A-Ronne, as part of the Garda Summer Intensive Course, Riva del Garda. The cycle of conferences, held between September 5 and 10, is organized by Conservatorio "F. A. Bonporti", Trento.

On Wednesday, June 8, 2011, in the Conference Room of the Biblioteca Statale in Cremona, Angela Ida De Benedictis, scientific director of the Centro Studi Luciano Berio, will deliver a lecture titled Le sperimentazioni vocali di Luciano Berio. The conference is sponsored by the Lions Campus Club Universitas Nova, Cremona.
